Policies are necessary so all can reach their potential as accomplished students of dance. Parents, please assist your children as they prepare for their classes ready
to give their best effort. With your cooperation we can succeed and achieve our goals.
Class Attire
Appearance and behavior are very important at The Center for Music, Theatre and Dance. We strive for high standards in our dance training and are very proud of our
students’ achievements. Whether you are a recreational student who studies for fun or a more serious student working toward a pre-professional level, it is imperative
that you come to dance class prepared and appropriately dressed in dance attire with a neat appearance and required dance shoes. Teachers must be able to observe arms,
legs and body position to instruct properly. Sneakers, tee shirts, soccer shorts, pajama shorts, bathing suits, gym sweat pants, jewelry, and gum are prohibited.
Excessive talking, tardiness and absenteeism are discouraged. Hair must be pulled off the face in a bun for ballet, and dance shoes are to be worn in the studio only,
NEVER OUTSIDE!
Attendance, Make-ups and Cancelled Classes
Students arriving for class late may be asked to observe rather than participate. Any exceptions to this rule will be at the teacher’s
discretion. Students and their parents should make a conscientious effort to arrive a few minutes early for class so that class can begin on time. As a courtesy, we ask
that you notify the studio if your child will be absent. The Center for Music, Theatre and Dance encourages all students to make-up missed classes. Please check with the
office staff for the recommended class. Make-up classes must be scheduled with one month of a child’s absence to ensure uniform progress. In the event that a class in
cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, the student is then welcome to participate in any other class of their liking provided it is at an appropriate level.
Class Placement
If classes are highlighted on the schedule, those are the classes recommended by our staff for your child’s level. If classes are not highlighted, kindly call the school
for advice on levels of training and the choosing of classes. Parents and children are asked to trust our judgment with respect to class placement. Placements are very
carefully considered and will be made according to ability, age and maturity as determined by our staff and director.
Opportunities
The Center of Music, Theatre and Dance provides a foundation of training in which to explore the numerous opportunities available to well-rounded
performers. We take pride in gearing our students for arts oriented recreational hobbies and/or careers and professions. Training in the arts prepares the student to meet
the demands associated with academic oral presentations and projects, school plays, chorus concerts, community theatre groups, performing arts high schools,
pre-professional summer dance academies, dance colleges and universities, dance teams, traveling dance troops, competitions, theme parks, Atlantic City shows, Las Vegas
shows, films, commercial, ballet companies or even Broadway.
Recommendations
In an effort to facilitate the training process and produce trained dancers, we strongly recommend that all students participate in classical
ballet training at the Center of Music, Theatre and Dance. A foundation of ballet will accelerate the student's technical ability, enabling him or her to execute the
choreography of all styles with greater strength, poise and agility. Ballet provides a phenomenal foundation for all other dance forms and should always be part of a
dancer’s curriculum. A ballet class should always be included in your child’s dance program.
The Company of Music, Theatre and Dance
The Company of Music, Theatre and Dance is a non-profit organization, established in 2001. The Company utilizes chosen Performance Workshop
dancers and offers them additional performing opportunities. There are separate fees associated with The Company of Music, Theatre and Dance. For more information on its
mission and involvement within the community, kindly call the office.
Boys at MTD
The boys continue to meet with great success at The Center of Music, Theatre and Dance. Old fashioned attitudes have changed. In the new
millennium, more boys are enrolling than ever before. As always, the young men are a highlighted feature at our performances. The Center for Music, Theatre and Dance has
worked hard to encourage their participation.
A Competition Note
Although not a primary focus at The Center for Music, Theatre and Dance, we do like to occasionally offer an enjoyable experience to appropriate
classes. Classes are chosen by teacher recommendation and participation in such events requires a definite time commitment, rehearsals and fees.
Tuitions and Fees
Please contact us for information about tuitions and fees.
Registration
Classes are filled on a first come first serve basis. We urge our returning students to register as soon as possible to obtain a desired class.
We open our doors to new customers throughout the summer season.
